Administrative History Ian Gordon Lindsay (1906-1966) was a Scottish conservation architect best-known for his restorative work on historic Scottish buildings, including: James Smith’s 1685 Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh (c. 1938-54); Iona Abbey (c. 1939-52); Pluscarden Priory, Morayshire (c. 1946-63); as well as the historic burghs of Culross (1932-on) and Inveraray (1958-on). This material was compiled by Lindsay from a relatively young age. The notebook and cuttings, minus the 1780s clippings, date to c.1918-1922 - making Lindsay somewhere between 12 and 16 years of age - indicating his burgeoning interest in the historic architecture of Scotland.
Accruals This material was loaned to HES for copying in 2024 as a Survey of Private Collections (SPC). Further accruals may occur; the family holds a range of personalia created by Ian Lindsay during his lifetime.
