Scope and Content Kinlochmoidart House, Highland, from south-south-east This shows the south-east front of the house with the main entrance for the family and guests through the doorway at the top of the steps. The servants would have entered through the door under the oriel window (bay window to right of steps) or by the service wing behind the bushes on the right. William Leiper was a successful Glasgow architect who practiced from 1864 to 1911. He designed and altered an array of different buildings around Scotland but he tended to copy his own work. The design of Kinlochmoidart House is very similar to Dalmore in Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute. Kinlochmoidart House was built in 1884 for Robert Stewart, distiller and stands on the site of an earlier house which was destroyed by fire in the mid-18th century. William Leiper (1839-1916), designed the house in Scots Baronial style and used local whinstone and red Ballochmyle sandstone in the construction. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
