Scope and Content Main staircase inside Rothesay Town Hall and County Buildings, Argyll and Bute Rothesay Town Hall and County Buildings, built on the site of two earlier tolbooths, was one of the improvements contained in an 1831 Act of Parliament. The clock was made in London in 1834 and donated by the 2nd Marquis of Bute. The main entrance leads to a staircase probably dating to 1883. Originally, a forestair led to a main entrance on the first floor. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
