Scope and Content Tower, City Chambers, Kirkgate, Dunfermline, Fife The City Chambers were built by James C Walker in 1875-9 in Baronial style to replace an older Town-house on the same site. The projecting turrets at the base of the spire are called bartizans. Historical styles like Scottish Baronial, inspired by Scottish castles, became popular in the 19th-century, partly because they reflected national, rather than Classical, architectural traditions.
