Scope and Content Baptist Church, Bonnygate, Cupar, Fife Bonnygate Church, United Presbyterian Church [shown in the distance] The United Presbyterian Church was designed in 1849 by J D Peddie. It was converted to a cinema around 1920, twenty years after the UP Church merged with the Free Church of Scotland to form the United Free Church of Scotland. It is now the Baptist Church. Though the United Presbyterian organisation was only two years old in 1847, the church was built in what is known as Innocent Norman style with pointed arches and ornamented mouldings similar to 13th-century architecture. The United Presbyterian Church was formed in 1847 from denominations that left the Church of Scotland in the 18th century. It joined the Free Church of Scotland in 1900 creating the United Free Church, apart from a minority who became the Wee Free Church. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
