Scope and Content Chambered cairn at The Ord, Lairg, Sutherland, Highland The Ord is a low hill near Loch Shin. The area would have provided Prehistoric man with land for cultivating and grazing, and the nearby river would have provided fish. The large stone cairn is built near the top of the hill and was excavated in 1967. The chamber and antechamber were blocked after the excavations though some of the passage is still visible. Cremation burials, pot sherds and flint flakes were found inside. A later cremation was placed above the main chamber. A second cairn is nearby. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
