Scope and Content Burgh arms in Council Chamber inside Anstruther Wester Town Hall, Fife Anstruther Wester Town Hall replaced the old tolbooth which was so small that the council had to meet in a private house if there was a prisoner. An older, bigger, tolbooth was washed away by a storm in the 17th century. The burgh arms, painted above the fireplace in the main council chamber, is part of the 18th- and 19th-century decoration surviving on the first floor. The same artist probably painted a coat of arms in Pittenweem Town Hall around 1820. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
