Scope and Content View of Muirtown Cottage, No 50 Clachnaharry Road, Inverness Muirtown Cottage was built in the early 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. It is a two-storeyed, three-bayed house built of ashlar masonry with arched windows and central porch. This shows the house with its Gothic arched windows, their glazing bars forming a tracery pattern. The porch is of wood and the window above it is 'blind', and painted in imitation of the other windows. The slated roof has a central chimney. This house has the pointed windows so representative of the Gothic Revival movement. This style was deeply influenced by the architectural and decorative motifs of medieval buildings and furnishings, particularly those found in an ecclesiastical context.
