Scope and Content 1828 plan of St Andrews Cathedral Church and Cloister, St Andrews, Fife St Andrew's Cathedral Church and Augustinian priory were begun by Bishop Arnold and King Malcolm IV in 1160 or 1161 and, being constructed on a scale unrivalled anywhere in Britain except at Norwich, took at least half a century to complete. This plan was drawn by Reverend Sive in 1828. It consists of a partial reconstruction of the layout of the original structure with explanatory notes. There was a religious community at St Andrews by the mid 8th century, and a bishop by the mid 10th century. The Augustinian canons, who replaced the original community in around 1125, flourished until the Reformation. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
