Scope and Content Carn Ban cairn, Carnasserie, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute Carn Ban ('White Cairn' in Gaelic) crowns a rocky knoll some 700m north-east of Carnasserie Castle. Carn Ban is a large, roughly circular cairn originally bounded by kerbstones, a few of which still survive in situ. The builders of the cairn took advantage of the natural outcrops of rock to accentuate its height. On top of Carn Ban is a modern cairn. The site appears not have been excavated, but it probably contains a Bronze Age cist burial. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
