Scope and Content Recorded on the mounted print: 'Scottish National Buildings Record. Shire: Fife. Place: Pittenweem. Building: 6 and 8 Market Place. Photographer: F.B. Date: July 1963'. Number 6 and 8 Market Place, Pittenweem, Fife Pittenweem became a burgh of barony dependent on its Augustinian Priory in the 15th century, and a royal burgh in 1541. Appearing in records in 1228, its port harboured a thriving fishing fleet, and was home to merchants trading with the Low Countries. Number 6 to 8 Market Place was built in about 1850. A chimney rises from the wall-head between the two dormer windows. Its base is decorated with stone scrolls. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
