Scope and Content This is a general view of the centre of Inverness. The Ness Bridge is centre left and the Old High Church is at centre right with the Greig Street Suspension Bridge crossing the river to the left of the Old High Church graveyard. The Ness Bridge replaced the earlier suspension bridge in 1961. The Greig Street Suspension Bridge is a pedestrian crossing, linking Greig Street on the west side of the river and Bank Street on the east. It was opened in 1881. The Old High Church and its churchyard is situated on St. Michael's Mount, supposedly the site of a church founded by St. Columba in the C6. The oldest part of the present building is probably C16, but the church was rebuilt in the late C18 and alterations were undertaken in the C19.
