DP 343159

Description An oblique aerial view of Tarradale, near Muir of Ord, Black Isle, looking SE

Date 1/10/2013

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 343159

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content A general view with Tarradale House in the centre, surrounded by trees. In the lower right an area of rough ground with an apparent bank. Around it lies in the centre of a Pictish Barrow Cemetery, various elements of which have been recorded separately in the past. To the right of Tarradale House and closer to the shore a possible castle motte and enclosure have been recorded, and along the shore line above the house and also in the upper left two, possibly three fish traps have been noted. Fieldwalking and chance finds in the area led to the Tarradale Through Time project which excavated Mesolithic shell middens in the fields close to the shore in 2017 and the Barrow Cemetery in 2019 -2020 adding much more detail about the extensive use of the area from the Mesolithic onwards. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
