Scope and Content The Fabrication Yard at Nigg was opened in 1972 and had one of the largest dry docks in Europe for the construction of North Sea oil platforms. There are the remains of saltings in the dry dock. The pier on the left is used by the Nigg Ferry which crosses to Cromarty during the summer months. This crossing is of historic importance as part of the pilgrimage route to Tain. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
