Date 26/3/2012

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content This is a view of the Loch Ness Golf Course, opened in 1996. The site of a medieval castle is towards the centre of the photo within the boundaries of the golf course. The form of the name is in dispute. Although known locally as Castle Heather, it appears in the record as Castle Leathers and Castle Bathers, the latter being an anglicisation of the Gaelic Caisteal nan Boirach or Castle of the Recluse. There is a chambered cairn in the clump of trees towards top left and to its left is Druidtemple Farm. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
