Description Near aerial view of site for UHI Campus, Inverness, looking SW.

Date 26/3/2012

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 342693

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This view focuses on the site for the new campus for the UHI at Inshes, Inverness, on the site of Beechwood Farm which is towards centre right. Simpson's Garden Centre is at top left and the A9 curves from top left to centre right. The B9006 crosses the A9, running from left to right. The B9006 follows the line of the old A9 and originally crossed the new A9 by a staggered crossing which was deemed to be too dangerous. The bridge to take the road across the A9 was built c1982. Inshes Primary School is at top right and below that is Inshes Retail Park. The Southern Distributor Road runs across the top right corner of the photo. Simpson's Garden centre was established in Beauly in the 1930s, but moved to the Victorian Market in Inverness in 2001 before relocating to its present position. Beechwood Farm was built in the C19 and raised bulls for breeding purposes. Inshes Primary School was opened in August 2007. This area has some evidence of prehistoric activity. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
