Scope and Content The image shows Fortrose, with Canmore references to many of the buildings. Of major importance is the ruined cathedral, in the upper L quarter, origins about 1235. From this period only the undercroft of the chapter house remains. The vaulted south aisle and bell tower from late 14c survives. The other Church visible is Fortrose Free Church. Fortrose Academy is to the L. The harbour is above it. In the lower half of the image, the white lines in the field are the trial archaeological trenches preparatory to a new housing development.
