Scope and Content This is a close view of Cromarty House, built in 1772 to replace the medieval Castle. Below is the walled garden which is skirted by the Causeway, the original approach from the town to the castle. The castle was sited in the area to the left of Cromarty House and was built in 1470, replaced by a more substantial L-plan tower in the lC15 and demolished in 1772 when Cromarty House was built. Reed's Field, at the centre of the photo, was the focus of an excavation from 2013-2016 as part of the Cromarty Mediaeval Burgh Project and C12 remains of the original village were uncovered. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
