Scope and Content This is a general view of Culloden on the eastern side of Inverness. Culloden House and its walled garden can be seen at centre-left. The Home Farm is just below the house and the stables are to its right above the playing fields. Stratton Lodge is at the bottom of the picture, surrounded by trees. Culloden Academy lies between Culloden and Balloch which is towards the upper left of picture. Culloden House, the home of the Forbes family was built in 1776 on the site of an earlier building, remains of which can be seen in the cellar of the present house. It became a hotel in 1976. The home farm and stables have been converted into houses. Stratton Lodge was built for Sarah Stratton following her marriage to Arthur Forbes, 8th Laird of Culloden, in 1779. After 2000 it operated as a hotel for several years but was derelict when it was badly damaged by fire in 2011. Culloden Academy was established in 1978 and operated from Millburn Academy in Inverness for 4 years till this building was ready for occupation.
