Scope and Content The central foreground shows the original 18th-19th century Fort George barracks, Castlehill, Inverness and the site of Old Inverness Castle. The castle was a medieval motte and bailey, but little apart from the well in the courtyard survives. The post medieval to 21st century court house is also on Castle Hill with the 19th century bronze statue of Flora Macdonald in front of it. HM Prison Porterfield, now HMP Inverness, 20th century, is prominent on the L side of the photograph. The 19th century houses of Ardross Terrace and Street are in the R foreground.
