Scope and Content This WWII airfield built in 1939, initially as a training airfield, was in use until 2011, when flying ceased and it was transferred to the British Army as a barracks - the photo predates this. It had 3 runways. It was the home of permanent buildings, class C type hangars, and temporary buildings. It was used as a base for the 1942 attacks on various German battle ships including Tirpitz. A watching brief in 2004 found no archaeology. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
