Scope and Content Castle Stuart, tower house, was built on the site of an older castle on land granted to James Stuart 1st Earl of Moray in 1561. The castle was finally completed in 1625 by his grandson James Stuart, 3rd Earl of Moray. It gradually fell into disuse after the fall in the fortunes of the Stuarts and lay derelict for 300 years before being restored as a luxury hotel. Behind the castle is Scottack farm house, steadings and cart shed. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
