Date 6/2/2008

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content This is a view of Castle Urquhart, built on Strone Point, just outside the village of Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness. The earliest part of the present buildings date to the C13, but a Pictish fort was built on this site in the C6 and it's associated with St. Columba's visit to the Pictish chief Brude. The castle was finally put out of use following the Jacobite rebellion at the end of the C17. The photo also shows the visitor centre, opened in 2002. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
