SC 1967524

Description Aerial view of Inchkenneth Isle, off Mull, looking N.

Date 7/1997

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1967524

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Inchkenneth Island, named after St Kenneth, was reputed to have held a monastery dependent on Iona, though there is no structural evidence surviving. A hoard of Anglo-Saxon and other silver coins was found on the island in 1831 and the finds split between the NMAS and the British Museum. This image shows Inchkenneth House and the associated farm. Remains of rig cultivation identified in the centre of the island are not visible on this photograph and though visible on current aerial photographs have been diminished by modern ploughing and drainage. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
