Date 2/1996

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1967438

Scope and Content In the centre of the photo can be seen a group of round and square barrows under snow at Garbeg, all believed to date to the Pictish period. A Pictish symbol was discovered in the top of one of the barrows in 1974 by the landowner. The area was excavated soon after by Laurie Wedderburn Dorothy Grime. Field clearance cairns and sinuous field boundaries can also be seen, although it is not known how they relate to the barrow cemetery. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
