Scope and Content Carbisdale Castle was built between 1905 and 1917 for the second wife of the 3rd Duke of Sutherland. From 1945 to 2011 it functioned as a Youth Hostel. On the left is the service court built circa 1907. The surrounding area is known as Lamentation Hill because of its association with the Battle of Carbisdale in 1650.
