Scope and Content This is a close view of Loch an Eilean Castle which lies S of Aviemore. It consist of a keep, hall block and other buildings with an enclosing wall. It was probably built in the C14 by Alexander Stewart, the Wolf of Badenoch, although by 1567 it had become the property of the Grants. It was last used in 1715 as a prison.
