Date 2002

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1945035

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This is a close view of the Aviemore Centre which was opened in the village in 1966 to exploit the winter sports opportunities of Cairngorm. The original centre included hotels, a cinema, ice rink, swimming pool and Santa Claus Land. By the 1980s the whole facility was becoming degraded and the ice rink, swimming pool and cinema closed. In the 1990s and the early years of the C21 the area was cleared and new facilities were built. This view shows the Four Seasons Hotel at top right and the centre with facilities at bottom right. The Freedom Inn is at top left and the station is at top centre. The area has been landscaped since this photo was taken with a large car park at bottom left. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
