Description Aerial view of N Kessock, Black Isle, looking NW.

Date 2001

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1944974

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The A9 is at the top of the photo, now bypassing the village of N Kessock with its school middle right. In the area to the right of the school is the site of an Iron Age, and later, settlement. Excavations there revealed a group of Neolithic features and an Iron Age roundhouse S of the current site. There were also pits dating to the Neolithic and Bronze Age, and three possible kilns. The brown field to the L of the photo has subsequently been developed for housing, with archaeological assessment before the development revealing a rich Iron Age landscape. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
