Description Oblique aerial view of the strath of the Abhainn Leataidh / Lettie River, Strath Fleet, Sutherland, looking SE.

Date 28/1/1998

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1944841

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The image shows the track through the settlement site of Leataidh, to left of the wooded course of the river. To right of the river, are the former townships of Caolas and the more distant Achadh a' Choirce. Settlement in the glen dates from Bronze Age to early 19th-C, when townships were cleared to form a sheep farm. The area of the image includes hut circles and a burnt mound ("Collinstown" in Canmore). The image shows rig and furrow, a circular feature to right of track in centre of image, an apparent longhouse to its right, and a head dyke crossing the image from lower right to mid-left. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
