Description This map shows the distribution of stone axes known from southern Scotland. The majority of the axes have been found in the course of agricultural operations, and, therefore, they are only occasionally found in the uplands. The relative paucity of finds from the western parts of the lowlands is probably the result of a greater emphasis on stock-farming in these areas. Published in Eastern Dumfriesshire: an archaeological landscape.
