Scope and Content Aerial view of Lauder Town-house, Scottish Borders Lauder Town-house, though much altered, dates to at least 1543 when a watchman was posted to warn of invasions. This did not stop Lord Home burning it in 1598. Almost completely rebuilt in 1773, the Town-house was used until 1843. Lauder Town-house originated in a period of warfare and feuds. In 1598 it was burnt by Lord Home who 'took out and killed' William Lawther who with his brothers had wounded John Cranston, the man who had killed their father.
