Description Oblique aerial view of hut circles and field systems at Cnoc-an-t-Sidhean, Rogart, East Sutherland, looking NW.

Date 2000

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1906901

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content To right of centre of image, the raised footings of the Blairmore hut circles (on the E face of Cnoc-an-t-Sidhean) have caught the sun. In addition to the hut circles, the site includes a burnt mound and field system. Clearance cairns are visible on the sunlit side of the hill. Some of the other archaeological features in the area of the image can be discerned, others not so. Invisible features include a farmstead with medieval rig and furrow at lower centre edge, and a hut circle and cairnfield between there and the first rectangular field. Extending over a wide area of Skiag, the hill to left of image, numerous clearance cairns are evidence of the Blairmore field system. At upper centre, clearance cairns can be seen within the curve of the road, where there is also a hut circle (not seen in image). Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
