Date 1997

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content The retail and business park set up at Stoneyfield and Wester Seafield was part of the 'Golden Mile' which was identified at the end of the C20 as an area of future growth of Inverness. Archaeological survey and excavation ahead of development at Wester Seafield (1996) and Stoneyfield (1997) identified substantial prehistoric remains, including a Bronze Age cemetery and a late prehistoric settlement. This view shows the area around Stoneyfield House before it was developed and Stoneyfield House which was built in 1780 as a smallholding can be seen right of centre with the Coach House to its left. The Coach House was sold off in the early C20 and became a popular eating place. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
