Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1865159

Scope and Content This is a general view of the centre of Inverness, but focuses on the area between the river and the canal - Dalneigh, Ballifeary and the Bught. At top of picture is the Kessock Bridge (opened 1982) with Ord Hill on the Black Isle above it. Inverness High School, established on the site at Dalneigh in 1937, is just to left of centre and Tomnahurich is below it. Tomnahurich was laid out as a cemetery for the town in 1863. To its right is the Bught which has been established as a sporting hub with Queen's Park stadium, the Aqua dome (opened 1997) and the ice rink at bottom right. Also in that area is the Botanic Gardens and Floral Hall, established in the walled garden of Bught House which was demolished to make way for the ice rink in 1968. Torvean Golf Course, established in 1962, is at bottom left. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
