Scope and Content Fasque House is seen at upper centre, catching the light. Fasque house was completed in 1809 for Sir Thomas Ramsay; purchased 1828 by Liverpool merchant John Gladstone (father of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone), who added a portico and heightened the octagonal tower. To its W is the site of its C18 predecessor, Faskie. To the right of centre, the Walled Garden is seen in some detail. It was noted in the 19th-C for its exotic fruits, hothouse, and heated walls. In the foreground, the rounded woodland promontory obscures a folly, The Octagon, reputedly built as a place in which to play cards. To its right, the large, brown field contains the site of an enclosure, not visible here but perhaps seen as a partial cropmark on a Canmore image. At top edge of image, the double-dyked road heading north is part of the Old Military Road over the Cairn o' Mount, here taking a divergent route from the existing B974. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
