SC 1863119

Description Aerial view of Inverness, looking NE.

Date 1988

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1863119

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Wide general view of the west side of Inverness looking over to the Black Isle. Very few of the sites of historical interest can be identified but the High School is very prominent at the centre of the photo, Tomnahurich Cemetery is at bottom left and the Kessock Bridge is unmistakeable. Inverness High School was founded after the Disruption of 1843 and occupied premises in the Crown area before moving to its present site in 1937. Tomnahurich was developed as a cemetery for the town in the C19. The Kessock Bridge was opened in 1982 as part of the upgrade of the A9. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
