SC 1863093

Description Aerial view of Loch Moy, south of Inverness, looking N.

Date 1987

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1863093

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The A9 is in the foreground with the old A9 beyond. Moy Church, burial ground and Manse are in the centre of the photo. Built c. 1765 on the site of an older church. Beyond is Loch Moy. On the island the original Moy house was built in the early Middle Ages, the country seat of the Bishops of Moray. Nothing now remains. It was superseded by Moy House on the shore. The clearly visible obelisk on the island is a memorial to Sir Aeneas MacIntosh. To the right is a possible crannog, on Eilean nan Clach supposedly the site of a prison with a submerged causeway to the house. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
