Scope and Content Hillfort at Burnswark Hill, Dumfries and Galloway Burnswark Hill is the location of several sites. The earliest is a cairn and cist burial. Several centuries later a hillfort was built on the site. On either side of this these is a Roman camp. There are also other enclosures.. This is an aerial view of the site. The most visible feature in this image is the native hillfort. The rampart is single to the N, but double to the SE. There are three entrances in the SE flank of the fort. There is a Bronze Age cairn inside the fort. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
