Scope and Content Tanlawhill, tower-house and farmstead, Dumfries and Galloway The remains of a small tower-house and other associated buildings of late-medieval date lie some 250m north of the present Tanlawhill farmsteading. The outline of the tower-house and other buildings can just be seen in the centre of this aerial photograph. Although little remains of these buildings, the tower-house was still occupied at the end of the 18th century. There is evidence for Tanlawhill in documentary sources. It appears on Blaeu's Atlas of 1654 as well as on the maps of Roy in 1747-55 and is mentioned in records dating to 1598. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
