Scope and Content Temporary camp at Normandykes, City of Aberdeen This Roman temporary camp is at Normandykes in Aberdeenshire. It was built on top of a broad hill and overlooked an old ford over the River Dee. Very little can now be seen at ground level. This is an aerial view of the site. Due to cultivation in the surrounding fields, very little of camp can still be seen. Here, a section of the N side can be seen as a cropmark. The gap halfway along shows one of the six identified gateways. The existence of this temporary marching camp was proved through excavation in 1935. The six entrances were all protected by tutuli.
