Scope and Content Fort and temporary camp at Cardean, Angus This Roman fort is at Cardean, near Meigle, Angus. The fort appears to have had one short period of occupation. Traces of the turf rampart, some 6.1 m wide, can still be seen to the N and SE. The camp lies to the E. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen as a series of cropmarks between the two wooded areas, in the middle of the image. The defences consisted of a rampart and four ditches. Gates have been located in the NE, SE and SW sides. The fort has been excavated providing information on the location of internal roads and the position of some of the barrack blocks.
