Scope and Content Fort at Strageath, Perth and Kinross This Roman fort is at Strageath. It stood at the point where the Roman road crossed the river Earn. It appears to have had three phases of occupation, but was first built to house one of the garrisons guarding the road to the fortress at Inchtuthil. This is an aerial view of the site. The layout of the fort can seen as a series of cropmarks. During its first phase, the fort had a small annexe to the W, which was later doubled in size. It was reduced again in the last phase when more ditches were dug. The fort was first built around AD 83 and was abandoned by AD 87. It was re-occupied about AD 142, when the Antonine Wall was built and then rebuilt during the 150s, possibly after a brief abandonment. It was evacuated by AD 164.
