Scope and Content Glasclune Castle, Perth and Kinross Built about 1600, the remains of Glasclune Castle are located 140m to the east of Mains of Glasclune farm. Originally a Z-plan tower-house, the surviving remains are clearly visible in this aerial photograph. Sitting above the Glasclune Burn, the remains are in two parts: a main block two storeys and a garret in height and an accommodation wing to the north. Originally, there was also a walled courtyard to the west of the buildings. Tower-houses were built in Scotland between the 14th and 17th centuries and were one of the simplest forms of fortified residence. A Z-plan tower-house had towers placed at diagonally opposite corners of the main building. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
