Scope and Content View of hall and staircase, No 28 Springfield, Dundee No 28 Springfield is a fine two-storeyed terraced house, which was built c.1830. It has a stone balustrade at the wall-head, and a Doric portico. It stands in a street of similar houses, some with further dormer windows and balconies. This photograph shows the sweeping staircase, with cast iron balustrade and wooden banisters. The stair carpet is held in place with brass stair-rods. The ceiling has plaster cornices and bracket decoration and a longcase clock stands against the wall. This elaborately decorated hall would be the first part of the house a visitor would see. The plasterwork decoration covering the ceiling and the cast-ironwork add richness to the interior, and are designed to impress. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
