Scope and Content General view of No 28 Springfield, Dundee No 28 Springfield was built c.1830, and is part of a terrace of Neo-Classical-style houses with Greek Doric Porticoes, and balustrades at the wall-head. The terrace lines the road up from the sea, and similar decorative features repeat along the row. This photograph shows No 28 with its walls covered in a creeping plant from the small front garden. The Doric portico frames the door, with its leaded window. The balustrade and window surrounds add to the effect of solidity and Classicism. The interior of this house has fine decorative plasterwork, and a cast-iron staircase balustrade. The grandeur of the exterior and interior suggests that this house was built for a wealthy client, who wished to express his taste through this elegant home. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
