Scope and Content St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, Breadalbane Terrace, Wick, Highland Wick, a royal burgh since 1589, remained a small town until after 1801 when Thomas Telford planned the harbour and new town on behalf of the British Fisheries Society. By the middle of the 19th century, Wick was Europe's largest herring port. St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church (left) was built in 1836-7 by William Robertson. Adjacent to it (right) is a mid-Victorian convent, built in a similar style. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
