Scope and Content Woodhall House, Woodhall Road, Colinton, Edinburgh Woodhall House, built c.1630 for Adam Cunningham, Lord Woodhall, stands in an isolated rural setting at the western end of Woodhall Road. The house was originally part of the estate of Woodhall which first appeared in historical records in 1329. The original house was enlarged in the late 17th century by Sir John Foulis of Ravelston, but the baronial castellations, the hood-moulds over the windows and the buttressed central tower were added c.1820. In the late 17th century the house and estate, together with the paper mills of Spylaw, were bought by Sir John Foulis, cousin of Sir James Foulis, Lord Colinton. He became a successful landowner with responsibilities for the upkeep of the parish church. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
