Scope and Content End pavilion, No 44 Moray Place, Edinburgh Moray Place, designed in 1822 by James Gillespie Graham as the huge polygonal showpiece of his new housing development on the Earl of Moray's estate, has been described in the way of private building as 'the most splendid thing in Edinburgh'. This four-storeyed end pavilion or corner block has Doric pilasters running between the first and second floors, and arched window openings on the rusticated ground floor. Above the door is an elegant semicircular fanlight. The private pleasure grounds for the use of the Moray feuars are directly accessible from the back gardens to the north, and run down almost to the Water of Leith, with massive arched retaining walls and carefully laid paths on the steep slope.
