Scope and Content St James Episcopal Church, Dingwall, Highlands Dingwall, despite being the county town of Ross and Cromarty, remained small with little trade until its harbour was built in 1815-17. Connection to the rail network in 1862 fuelled further expansion. The town-centre was redeveloped in 1963. St James Episcopal Church was built in 1851-2 by J L Pearson with James Ross as executant architect. It was partially rebuilt in 1871-2 by Alexander Ross after fire damage. The Episcopal Church of Scotland was formed in 1690 from those who favoured Episcopacy - a Church-of-England-style organisation involving bishops - re-imposed on Scotland in 1660 by King Charles II and revoked by King William III in 1690.
